Straight Outta Swampton
Issue #12
THIS WEEK AT VRC
Greetings Villalobos Village!
Welcome to another week of Straight Outta Swampton as we bring you the latest news from our life in rescue running the amazing Villalobos Rescue Center. You hear from me all the time telling you about the highs and lows of rescue. How it’s hard work, yet fulfilling, and we love it.
We couldn’t do it without the support of all of you, the Villalobos Village. We’re constantly faced with the hardships of our rescue, and yet we continue to make ends meet and rescue, rehabilitate and rehome so many amazing dogs. The last two years have been pretty difficult; ever since Animal Planet decided to stop making new episodes of Pit Bulls & Parolees we’ve had to come up with new and innovative ways to maintain VRC's capacity and care. Rabid Reality subscriptions have been a huge part of making up that difference, as has the Sponsor Program, merchandise sales, adoptions and now our Virtual Adoption program. Every bit helps, and thank you all for your support!
If you’re interested in learning more about the ways to support VRC, scroll below for more information, or reply to this email to let us know.
Without the TV show, our donations have dwindled down significantly.
Introducing our new virtual adopter program!
Do you want to help a VRC dog, but can't bring another pooch into your home? Well, here's your chance to "adopt" a VRC dog and help us bring him/her one step closer to getting a forever home of their own.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our international supporters to become a part of our adoption process in finding all our Villalobos dogs forever homes.
Unlike our Sponsor Program, the Virtual Adopter Program allows one person to “adopt” one of our adoptable dogs at VRC until that dog finds their forever home. Our Sponsor Dogs’ forever home is VRC, and we love all of our sponsors in that program, but this is a new way to “adopt” a dog and provide for them while they are under our care.
We recently started this program and are excited to announce three more virtual adoptions of Monarch, Chuckie and Stella! Thank you for your support!

THE ADOPTABLES
Lake
Meet 4 year-old Lake! She loves other dogs. She is shy when first meeting people but once comfortable she is the happiest, sweetest girl. She loves playing with her dog friends and getting love from her people. She likes the water and can be super goofy when coming out of her shell. She is good in the car as well.
Chai
Meet Chai! This girl is smart and sweet! She loves to learn and play fetch. Chai would benefit from an active lifestyle. She has shown signs of being dog friendly. Chai would be best with kids 12 and up.

VRC SPONSOR PROGRAM
KENAI NEEDS A SPONSOR
Yes, I know his appearance is shocking. And this is probably why he was passed by at a local animal shelter until the day of his scheduled euthanasia. Thankfully a former VRC employee spotted this little angel and contacted us.
The little compact dude was found as a stray by local animal control. He had been torn to pieces by what appears to be other dogs. Add to his horrific condition, it was also determined that he had been doused with some sort of chemical or boiling hot water as his body is also covered in burns/scars.
His muzzle/lips have been ripped off which leaves him with a permanent “smile” and while we think it’s endearing, at a glance, most think he is “snarling.” If you only knew….he is a complete mush.
Now named “Kenai” (as in the movie Brother Bear), our little cub is the most wiggly, waggly and kissy face pooch you could ever meet. We have no idea why or how he has forgiven any human whatsoever. He is a much better “person” than anyone I’ve ever met.
Kenai aka Toofers, is going to be with us for awhile. He has some medical treatment to go through and of course heartworm treatment as well. As we get to know him better, it will help us determine what type of home would be best for him. In the meantime, please consider being a part of Kenai’s healing process. Together we can keep that smile on his face for all the right reasons.

Introducing the first Kajun Kitties available for sponsorship!
Hey all you cool cats and kittens… 🐈️ 🐱 We wanted you to know we don’t just rescue dogs at VRC, we also rescue cats.
Let me introduce you to our VRC Kajun Kitty Krew. 😻 Each cat is now available to sponsor. Since they are all new to the sponsor program, the cats listed don’t have many sponsors and could really use your help!
If you are more of a cat person, we got you covered!
Our sponsor dog and cat program is one of the most important programs we have at VRC. Our monthly sponsorship program allows you to virtually “adopt” and care for one of our dogs or cats. While most of them are awaiting a home, sadly some are not adoptable due to severe medical conditions and, in some cases, severe emotional distress and are not able to leave our facility. As much as we want all of our dogs and cats to get a home of their own, it is simply not possible.
When you join the sponsor program you will receive a photo of your sponsored VRC dog or cat signed by Tia Torres thanking you for your support. Additionally, upon joining, you will get an invite to a private group on Facebook only for VRC Sponsors where you will be able to see constant updates on your sponsored pet.
If you aren’t getting Straight Outta Swampton in your email, subscribe now for free and never miss an update. Don’t depend on the algorithm to know what we’re up to!

CITY BEAT
From L to R: Stella and Monarch
From City Managers Jenna and Kyle: Gundar, one of the German Shepherds Kyle has been working with, got neutered last week. We did find out he is heartworm positive so he will be getting ready to start heartworm treatment.
We have been working hard moving dogs out to the sanctuary in preparation for closing our city warehouse location in the near future and joining our friends at our beautiful sanctuary location!
Until then, we are still open for volunteers 10am-12pm everyday by RSVP or volunteer dog walking on Saturday only from 1-3pm.
We are so excited that a couple of our dogs have gotten virtually adopted through our new Virtual Adoption Program! Congratulations Monarch and Stella! We are so excited about this new program.
Jenna and MacTavish
Also MacTavish made it home🏡 to me (Jenna) after spending some time with Dani in West Virginia! He’s settling in great and forever at home with me in his retirement.🖤
COUNTRY CORNER
From M2: We have a lot of new stuff happening in the country right now. We are extending our driveway down to the back of our property. Once it is complete, we will start getting the rest of the area ready to eventually move all of our city dogs out to the country. We are so excited to get them out here to have a quieter, more simple life until they find their forever homes.
We also have a few different transports coming up at the end of March. And we just completed a local adoption. A dog named Boude found his forever home in a local New Orleans home!
KAJUN KITTIES
From L to R: Pimento, Garfield, and Poblano
From Kitty Kween Jenny: As March begins, we are starting to get calls from the community out here in Assumption Parish asking for assistance getting the neighborhood cats fixed. It's beautiful outside and kitten season is knocking on our door. Between trapping, neutering and releasing cats around the Parish, we are also working on socializing a couple litters of kittens we took in over the last couple months, including Pimento and Poblano (pictured above). They are slowly trusting people. Lastly, in happier news, we had our first Kajun Kitty adoption last weekend. Little Garfield finally found his forever home with an amazing family. If you are interested in adopting a Kajun Kitty, please email [email protected]
After you play MUTT, let us know in the comments how many guesses it took you to guess today’s MUTT and let’s see if you can beat Tia! Click the image above, or here, to play!
If you want your dog featured on MUTT, submit it through the game, or send a photo of your dog and its DNA test results to [email protected]
Have fun playing the game, share it with everyone you know and let’s help get dogs across America adopted!
