Straight Outta Swampton

Issue #14

THIS WEEK AT VRC

Greetings Villalobos Village!

Welcome to another week of Straight Outta Swampton as we bring you the latest news from our life in rescue running the amazing Villalobos Rescue Center. We have some great updates from the City and Country locations along with the Kajun Kitties.

In rescue, we’re always thinking of new and unique ways to connect potential adopters with our dogs, and that’s why we started the Virtual Adopter Program last month. The response has been amazing and we’re adding more dogs to it. Scroll down to the city 🏙️ update and you’ll see a number of new dogs added!

If you haven’t heard about the program, the Virtual Adopter program is for people who want to help a VRC dog, but can't bring another pooch into their home. It allows people to "adopt" a VRC dog while we help bring him/her one step closer to getting a forever home of their own.

DOG FOOD DONATIONS NEEDED

We have even changed our brand of dog food to adjust to everyone's budget.  But times are "ruff" for animal rescues right now and we have to do what we have to do to keep our doors open.

We could use some help with dog food and have switched to Pedigree Complete on Amazon and on Chewy.  If anyone can spare a little, we have an Amazon Wishlist and a Chewy Wishlist

Shipping address:
5541 Hwy 1
Napoleonville, LA 70390

Many of you saw this on Facebook and have already answered the call. Words will never be enough but it's all I got for now. So THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! 🥰

THE ADOPTABLES

Breakfast

Meet 9 year-old Breakfast! Don’t get us wrong, we love pancakes, but this cutie would be so fun to wake up to every morning! She is full of love and joy and we know she would light up any home she goes to. She has been waiting 8.5 years for a home of her own. She needs to be the only dog and kids older than 6 would be best, she’s still got some spunk! She is well behaved and pretty easy going! Loves toys! Good in the car! Fill out an application for the best Breakfast ever!

Bonnie

Meet 4 year-old bully mix Bonnie! She is a small, low rider but don’t underestimate her! This girl has a big enough personality to make up for what she lacks in size. Bonnie needs to be the only animal in the home, but that’s OK because she will keep you occupied with her funny mannerisms and big heart! Bonnie loves people, she loves the car and is extremely confident. If anyone ever wanted a pig but can’t have one, she is pretty darn close. Apply to make Bonnie yours today!

VRC SPONSOR PROGRAM/

Click to sponsor Micey

MICEY NEEDS A SPONSOR

Just when you think people cannot get any more cruel….they do. When he was just a little pup, we found “Micey” and his brother “Derek”, tied to a fence in a vacant lot down in the Lower 9th Ward area of New Orleans. With the sun beating down on them, and no water or protection from Mother Nature, there is no doubt that within a couple more hours they both would’ve died from heat stroke.

Sadly, both pups developed into dogs with behavioral issues and cannot be adopted out. Despite the horrible treatment they received from their former humans they are still amazing with the VRC staff where they will remain under the protected arms of Villalobos.

To learn more about Micey and all of the other dogs in the Sponsor Dog Program at Villalobos, click below.

Our sponsor dog and cat program is one of the most important programs we have at VRC. Our monthly sponsorship program allows you to virtually “adopt” and care for one of our dogs or cats. While most of them are awaiting a home, sadly some are not adoptable due to severe medical conditions and, in some cases, severe emotional distress and are not able to leave our facility. As much as we want all of our dogs and cats to get a home of their own, it is simply not possible.

When you join the sponsor program you will receive a photo of your sponsored VRC dog or cat signed by Tia Torres thanking you for your support. Additionally, upon joining, you will get an invite to a private group on Facebook only for VRC Sponsors where you will be able to see constant updates on your sponsored pet.

If you aren’t getting Straight Outta Swampton in your email, subscribe now for free and never miss an update. Don’t depend on the algorithm to know what we’re up to!

CITY BEAT

From City Managers Jenna and Kyle: The city team has been slowly moving dogs to the sanctuary in the country as we work on shutting down the city location. Our first kennel buildings are scheduled to move next week!

I (Jenna) have been working on getting updated pictures of all the dogs in the city for the website and the new sponsor programs. The dogs are LOVING all the goodies their sponsors or virtual adopters have been sending! Thank you.

From L to R and Top to Bottom: Bisous, Splinter, Puff, Zen, Brigette, Catfish

Catfish, Ava G., Armstrong, Brigette, Puff, Bisous, Marcella, Splinter and Zen all have been added to our Virtual Adopter program! ❤️

COUNTRY CORNER

Thank you for all of the donations!

From M2: The country location is rocking and rolling. We just received an enormous amount of donations from our dedicated supporters, which include dog food, treats, medical supplies, toys, and multiple other odds and ends. We are so grateful for the generosity of all of these supporters, and it’s truly because of them that we are able to keep our doors open.

Enjoying the Easter egg hunt

We were able to do a really fun Easter egg hunt for our dogs this past week in celebration of Easter. It was a fun treat to break up the monotony of our normal daily tasks. The employees had fun and it also acted as a mental stimulating exercise for the dogs at the same time.

KAJUN KITTIES

From L to R: Momma and her kittens, Clove, Sweetness

From Kitty Kween Jenny: This past week we took in 2 strays who are just the sweetest cats. One so sweet we've named him Sweetness. The other one we have named Clove. We also took in a very pregnant cat from a colony we are helping. She had her 5 kittens less than 24hrs after we took her in. She's currently living with one of our employees. This is officially the beginning of kitten season here at VRC.

LIZZY’S TRAINING TIP OF THE WEEK

Teaching stay

Step 1: The key is not going too far too fast! Start by putting your hand ✋ up and saying “stay” take one very small step back and then step back to your dog and click and treat!

Step 2: Once you do step one a few times and your dog is staying in place, try taking 2-3 more steps back!

Step 3: Remember come back to your dog to mark and reward while you’re teaching this-the idea is to reinforce them staying in place!

If you need training help, visit https://www.itsforlifedogtraining.com/ to book an online session with Lizzy.
