Straight Outta Swampton

Issue #2

THIS WEEK AT VRC

Greetings Villalobos Village!

I can’t believe the response this newsletter received from y'all. We received such an incredible reaction to the first issue and have been overwhelmed by your support through applications to adopt VRC dogs and support the dogs in need of sponsors. While you never cease to amaze me, we’ve gotta keep pushing forward.

But as always, life in rescue is a rollercoaster. While we’ve been encouraged by the increase in adoption applications and sponsors, last week was also full of heartbreak. As you may have seen on Facebook, La Vie was brought to us in terrible condition and our employees rushed her to the vet, but ultimately she didn’t make it. The heartbreak of La Vie’s saga hit us all hard, but those are the realities of life in rescue.

As we continue this every-other-week newsletter, you’ll find updates from the VRC City and Country locations along with this week’s featured Adoptable and Sponsor dogs. We’re also sharing a couple more free previews from Rabid Reality - another episode of “Life with the Underdogs” as well as Earl and Toney’s series, “Big Easy Boyz.” If you miss seeing the guys, I promise you won’t be disappointed as you watch them explore New Orleans in their own special way. Scroll down and check it out!

Enjoy this dive into the world of Villalobos Rescue Center. Together, we'll keep wagging those tails and changing lives.

Slobbers and Drools,

Tia Torres

THE ADOPTABLES

Ditch

Meet 3.5 year-old, pit mix, Ditch! She is dog-friendly, loves people and is very confident! She was dumped in the ditch in front of one of our country locations which is where we got her name. She went through heartworm treatment and is finally ready for a home of her own! She is always in a good mood and loves to get the zoomies when she is excited.

Ghost

Meet 4.5 year-old, Ghost! He's a big sweet guy. Ghost is a laid back dude and very affectionate! He is very well behaved, goes on volunteer walks, and loves to meet new people. He does well walking next to other dogs similar in size but doesn’t show much interest in play, maybe he’s just too cool for school!

VRC SPONSOR PROGRAM

Cutie Pie

CUTIE PIE NEEDS A SPONSOR

Cutie Pie is definitely worthy of her name. She’s not great with kids, but she LOVES other people. If it was up to her, she would spend all day in your lap being loved on. She’s about 12 years-old, but is young at heart. Although she has arthritis, she doesn’t let that hold her back!

VRC dog sponsors get access to a private Facebook group moderated by Tia.

WHAT’S NEW ON RABID REALITY?

If you haven’t heard, Rabid Reality is our new online streaming network where we are creating our own shows that give you a peak into the lives of our VRC family. The goal is to make entertaining shows, and through the subscriptions, raise donations to continue to keep Villalobos Rescue Center up and running.

Life with the Underdogs is our new version of Pit Bulls & Parolees. It is a condensed version, BUT THE EXACT SAME STORIES & FORMAT: Adoption, rescue or a side story. Click the above photo (or here) to see an amazing rescue by Lizzy and Moe.

Are you wondering what’s up with your favorite parolees Earl and Toney? Well, now they have their own show! Everyone loves Big Easy Boyz! If you haven’t seen the first season click the photo above (or here) to catch all the action. The first episode is free! To watch the entire season, sign up for the Rescue Dog Tier for $10 per month.

When You Watch, They Eat!

CITY BEAT

MacTavish

Ragamuffin

From City Managers Jenna and Kyle: This week in the city started off pretty grim, when an influx of 5 dogs were dumped at the gates ranging in health conditions from decent to one of the worst we've ever seen. However, the rescue community has come together to help out and give us a chance to hope again.

Two of the three Cane Corsos

Canmer, Latimer and Ridley are 3 Cane Corso dogs that were tied to the fence, but are leaving to go to a rescue partner that specializes in the breed. Our friends at Pet Pack are taking a dog named Ragamuffin, who was dropped off a few months ago with terrible skin issues. (To see more of Ragamuffin, tune in to Saturday’s new episode of Life with the Underdogs.)

And on the adoption trail, a puppy named Skye is headed to a forever home in Texas and MacTavish, a senior dog, is going to a forever family in North Carolina.

COUNTRY CORNER

Agnes

Suds

From M2: It’s been a busy week out in the country, but we are excited to share that our resident country senior Great Dane, Agnes, finally has a home! She left yesterday and is heading to her new home in Tennessee.

Suds, a dog who was owned by a former employee who sadly passed away, was the last of her dogs we needed to place. She finally has a home! Suds will be heading to Indiana to her new home on Friday morning. We are so excited we are able to place her in a home again.

Dog House Renovation

And, here at the Sanctuary Property, Kanani has been hard at work remodeling one of our dog houses. We are doing everything we can to make it more comfortable for our dogs. It’s looking great and we are hoping the dogs can move back in this week.

VRC SPOTLIGHT

Have you caught Jay Hardesty on Instagram yet? He’s a UPS driver who has gone viral for the amazing photos he takes with the dogs on his route. While the world found out about him through social media, we’ve known about him for a long time because VRC New Orleans is on his route. We love UPS Jay! 🐶
