Issue #6
THIS WEEK AT VRC
Greetings Villalobos Village!
I hope you all had a great and Happy Thanksgiving! We’re now into the days of ‘Cyber Monday’ and ‘Giving Tuesday’ so there are a couple other things I want to call attention to in this newsletter in addition to the regular updates.
First off, the end of the newsletter highlights all the ways you can support VRC this holiday season. Whether you want to help with a one-time donation, purchase VRC merch, subscribe to Rabid Reality or shop at stores that support VRC, we’re including all of that info for you today. However you decide to help, thank you! We can’t do what we do every day without your support.
Secondly, I want to tell you about a fundraiser we just launched to support our annual vet bill. The fundraiser is in honor of Falcor, who left this Earth earlier this year, but his endearing and caring spirit still remains with us.
We have created this fundraiser to help raise the funds to put towards our vet bill balance of $100K.
Every dog that comes through the gates of VRC receives the best medical care possible including heartworm treatment. With 99% of the incoming dogs having heartworm, this is our biggest expense.
Donations are so low right now. PLEASE help us to help them.
Scroll on down 👇️ for all the other information and to see updates from our City and Country locations.
Slobbers and Drools,
Tia Torres
P.S. - We are about to start producing Season 4 of Pit Bulls, Parolees and a Producer, but we need your help. If you don’t know already, this is a video podcast on Rabid Reality where we sit down and talk about every episode we ever made of PBP. We started with Season 1, Episode 1 and we’re about to spill all the tea from Season 4.
Before I sit down with Producer Billy and our other guests, I need your questions for our “Pester the Producer” section. Season 4 of PBP was our first season in New Orleans, so if you have any questions about any episode from Season 4 send me your questions to pester Billy! Email your questions to [email protected] and I'll make sure he answers them.
THE ADOPTABLES
Ikora
Meet 2 ½ year-old Ikora. She is dog friendly, and actually came in with another dog who has since been adopted. She is extremely sweet and such an easy girl. She loves people and is crate trained.
Helix
Meet 5 ½ year-old Helix. He loves other dogs! In fact, he’s so good that he helps at the rescue with testing new dogs! He was very shy when he first came to us but has really blossomed. He is great in the car and in public settings! He’s a bigger boy so it’s best if he’s with older kids. Helix has been waiting years and the greatest gift this holiday season would be a home of his own!

KAJUN KITTY ADOPTABLES
Sunny
Sunny came from a very sad situation. His elderly owner became bedridden and could no longer care for him or the other 15 cats in the home. He is about 2 ½ years old and has always lived with other cats. He is very affectionate. He loves head scratches and laying in your lap. He does have a tendency to nibble, but they are only love bites followed by kisses! He doesn’t know personal space and just wants your love and affection!
If you are interested in adopting Sunny or any of our Kajun Kitties, please email us at [email protected]
VRC SPONSOR PROGRAM
BEATRICE NEEDS A SPONSOR
The cutie with a tudie….as in attitude..haha! Beatrice has been with us since she was a puppy. She has always been standoffish and just not into people. Being a puppy, they are supposed to love everyone they meet, but not her. If she didn’t know you, stay away! We have no idea why she was like this but it made trying to get her a home impossible and the older she got, the worse she became.
She loves her VRC family and that’s fine by us. She will stay here forever, but of course would welcome sponsors who love her side-eye tude.
To learn more about Beatrice and all of the other dogs in the Sponsor Dog Program at Villalobos click below.
Our sponsor dog program is one of the most important programs we have at VRC. Our monthly sponsorship program allows you to virtually “adopt” and care for one of our dogs. While most of our dogs are awaiting a home, sadly some are not adoptable due to severe medical conditions and in some cases, severe emotional distress and are not able to leave our facility. As much as we want all of our dogs to get a home of their own, it is simply not possible.
When you join the sponsor dog program you will receive a photo of your sponsored VRC pooch signed by Tia Torres thanking you for your support. Additionally, upon joining, you will get an invite to a private group on Facebook only for VRC Sponsors where you will be able to see constant updates on your sponsored dog.

CITY BEAT
(From L to R): Sugar Cookie, Dizzy and Rose
From City Managers Jenna and Kyle: Quick update on Vampirella from Issue #4: Having been with us for over a month, she was recently spayed and is almost ready for adoption.
Wednesday and Enid are two little sisters we got a couple weeks ago when they were dumped during dog walks. They are learning confidence and will be getting spayed soon. We got a new little girl yesterday, she’s pretty shy and fearful, which was why she was surrendered. She is very sweet, I named her Sugar Cookie.
Also new in the past few weeks, Veronica (now named Dizzy) went to her forever home in California and Chloe (now named Rose) also went to her forever home! 🙌
COUNTRY CORNER
(L to R): Adley and Cacti
From M2: This week we had a new country Intake named Adley. She was found in a cane field by a good samaritan. She is heartworm positive and will need a lot of groceries and TLC before she is ready to be adopted but she has already shown me she has a sweet and gentle soul.
Also in the last week, Cacti was returned to us right before Thanksgiving. He was adopted out through our old Florida prison program and after 2 years the adopter had to give him back. We aren’t completely sure the reasons he’s back, but once a VRC dog always a VRC dog so we happily took him back into our care. We are hoping he doesn’t have to stay here long as he is used to living in a home. We will add him to our website once he is done adjusting. He is sweet as can be and such a handsome man.
KAJUN KITTIES
Kid and dog testing the kitties
From Kitty Kween Jenny: We've been busy getting our Kajun Kitties ready for another transport in December. We have a few new transport partners in the Northeast, so we've been busy getting pictures, videos, etc. together for them. We’re also making sure all of the Kajun Kitties are kid and dog tested. We are preparing to take in more cats from a couple colonies we are helping next week. If you are interested in adopting a Kajun Kitty or are a rescue that is able to take in some Kajun Kitties, please email us at [email protected]
VRC SPOTLIGHT
WE HAVE A MOBILE GAME!
BIG NEWS! 🎊 We want to introduce you to our very first mobile game, MUTT! It's a digital version of a game all of us in rescue love to play, "I wonder what breeds make up that Mutt?" The goal of MUTT is to guess the top four breeds in a given dog’s DNA. It’s essentially our own version of Wordle. Every day will feature a new dog and a new challenge. When you correctly guess the top 4 breeds in the dog’s DNA you’ll see your results and you can share them with your friends to challenge them as well! Best of all, some of the dogs featured on MUTT will be Villalobos dogs available to be adopted by anyone playing the game (along with other rescues across the country). Click the image above, or here, to play!
If you want your dog featured on MUTT, send a photo of your dog and it’s DNA test results to [email protected] Haven’t done a DNA test on your dog yet? Click here to buy a DNA testing kit and part of your purchase will support the dogs of VRC!
Have fun playing the game, share it with everyone you know and let’s help get dogs across America adopted!
Every so often we are going to spotlight an individual, organization or special dog story that caught our attention. If you have an idea for a future VRC Spotlight, email us at [email protected] 📧
