THIS WEEK AT VRC

The Ongoing Chronicles of Dirt Road Rescues: A recent rescue mission has left a mark on all of us here at Villalobos Rescue Center. As many of you know, the rural areas of South Louisiana often lack the resources and support of Animal Control, leaving many animals without the help they desperately need. Last week, we encountered another unbelievably heartbreaking case of abandonment. The conditions we found these dogs in were nothing short of horrific, but thanks to your support, they are now on the path to recovery.

The Rescue

Two dogs were discovered left behind at a property following a foreclosure—emaciated, & tied up with no access to food or water. A male dog was bound by a chain so heavy it weighed more than him. A female dog had been locked in a crate on the porch for weeks. During that time, her only options were to stand, sit, or lie in her own waste. When approached, she was showing signs of aggression, likely reacting out of fear as she was understandably terrified.

The property was in a remote area, and without an official animal control department to step in, the local sheriff's department, despite their best efforts, could only provide temporary assistance by giving the dogs food and water.

It was a distressing situation, but thanks to the incredible support from our online community, we were able to take immediate action. Your shares and donations made a significant difference.

A New Beginning

A special thank you goes out to Matilda Belle Pet Grooming, who sprang into action to rescue these dogs. They’ve taken them in for urgent medical care and are showering them with the love and attention they desperately need. The dogs have been named Claude and Lillie and are finally in a safe space with clean beds, fresh water, and full bellies.

As they slowly continue to come out of their shells, Lillie is still very fearful and mostly stays in her kennel. Her trauma is evident, but she is being provided with gentle care and reassurance. Claude, on the other hand, is a bit braver. He ventures out, exploring his new surroundings, visiting Lillie, and checking on the other animals nearby.

Moving Forward

Our work is far from over. These dogs need continued medical care, emotional support, and a nurturing environment as they start to heal from their traumatic experiences. We are committed to monitoring their progress closely and will keep you updated on their journey.

Matilda Belle Pet Grooming will be crucial in their healing process, and they will need all the support they can get. If you’d like to help further, consider donating to the Go Fund Me campaign, as they continue to work toward attaining non-profit status.

Your contributions have already made a significant impact, and we are deeply grateful for your continued support. Thank you for standing with us in the fight to provide a better life for the animals in need. Your compassion and generosity make the difference that is needed to continue the fight.

“My mission is to rescue. My hope is that one day I don’t have to.”

Slobbers and Drools,

Tia Torres

VRC SPONSOR PROGRAM

Chaney

Klaus and Chaney

CHANEY NEEDS A SPONSOR

Meet Chaney, the lovable "baby" of the pack, named after the original Wolfman, Lon Chaney Jr., who also happens to be my Godfather. With an endearing and sweet personality, Chaney is impossible not to love. Though his background is a mystery, we suspect he might be one of Bruno’s offspring, which would explain so much about his gentle nature.

Chaney and his buddy Klaus are inseparable, with Klaus always trying to drag him into some mischief. But Chaney prefers a more relaxed life—he's happiest when he finds a lap to lay in. Your sponsorship can help keep this lovable companion comfortable and content.

To sponsor Chaney, or any of the other dogs in our sponsor program, click below.

VRC dog sponsors get access to a private Facebook group moderated by Tia.

WHAT’S NEW AT VRC?

Exciting News: We are soon launching a New Amazon Storefront! 🛒✨

I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news with you all. As many of you know, last year we faced the disappointment of losing the Amazon Smiles program. But, I’m excited to announce that we’re turning a new page with our very own Amazon storefront!

As a newly minted Amazon influencer/affiliate/associate, I now have the chance to earn a little extra something for the rescue every time you shop through our storefront. Here’s the best part: Not only do you get to pick up the goodies you love, but a portion of your purchase goes directly to helping the dogs at VRC. It’s like our new “wishlist” with an added bonus!

Our storefront is still a work in progress, but I’ll be adding more items each day to make sure there’s something for everyone. Each purchase will further support this new venture & benefit our rescue efforts.

I am looking forward to this new chapter with Amazon and, of course, your help is deeply appreciated. I can’t wait to see the impact we can make together! 🐾💖

COUNTRY CORNER

We have a lot happening in the country lately. We currently have two different locations being prepped and ready to move city dogs out here, allowing us to finally shut down the entire city operation. It’s bittersweet, but it’s what’s best for the dogs.

We’ve completed our very first foster trip, with the 90 DAY FIANCE’ program, and already had two foster fails who decided to keep their dogs permanently—Wishbone and Shark Eye are now officially adopted! We also have several adoptions happening this month, which we’re very excited about.

Wishbone

Shark Eye

Our newest rescue, Reno, came in with multiple injuries. He’s undergoing extensive surgeries, including having a dislocated hip repaired and a leg amputated. Once healed, he’ll undergo heartworm treatment and then be placed up for adoption. He’s such a sweetheart.

Reno

Our Virtual Adopter Program has taken off, and so many people have virtually adopted dogs through our website. If you’re interested in helping a specific dog, be sure to check it out!

HAPPILY FUR-EVER AFTER SPOTLIGHT

Steele Formerly Known As Bro:

Steele came to Villalobos after being surrendered with his mom and sister during one of the hurricanes here in Louisiana. His life changed in November 2020 when he was adopted by Nikkie, Kevin, and their kids, Tegan and Delaney. It was love at first sight!

Steele has settled in beautifully with his new family, bonding with his doggy sibling/BFF, Remington. He loves being the center of attention, giving endless kisses, and helping the kids with their homework. He's also taken on the important role of family security guard, keeping a watchful eye on the house.

Steele's favorite thing is joining the family on road trips—he insists on being the "passenger princess" in the front seat. At home, he has claimed a special chair as his own, where he relaxes and takes in all the family action.

Steele has truly completed their pack, and we’re so happy he found his perfect forever home.
