THIS WEEK AT VRC

Greetings Villalobos Village!

Due to the move from New Orleans, our volunteer program has been suspended until we complete the move. We couldn't be more grateful for the incredible outpouring of support from our dedicated community. Your enthusiasm and generosity have been incredible. For those of you who still want a way to help, donations are always helpful and appreciated.

Thanks for sticking with us and helping make a real difference in the lives of our furry friends.

Slobbers and Drools,

Tia Torres

THE ADOPTABLES

Olaf

Olaf is a 1-year-old Beagle mix with a big personality packed into a small frame. He loves car rides, gets along great with other dogs, and is wonderful with kids. Currently, he's in our PA Prison Program, learning basic manners and commands. Olaf is ready to bring joy and energy to his forever home!

Jughead

Jughead's story began as an itty bitty puppy when he famously got his head stuck in a treat jug—earning him his playful name. Now 2 years old, Jughead is full of life and energy. He absolutely loves kids and can’t get enough of playing in the water. If you're looking for a fun-loving companion with a great sense of humor, Jughead is the perfect match!

VRC SPONSOR PROGRAM

Cain

CAIN NEEDS A SPONSOR

Cain is our lovable rascal, a playful mix of Bart Simpson and Dennis the Menace. While his spirited nature has made finding a forever home a bit challenging, we adore him just the way he is. We tried once to find him a new family, but he quickly found his way back to us. Cain is just "complicated," and that's why he'll be staying here with us. In our eyes, he is pure perfection.

VRC dog sponsors get access to a private Facebook group moderated by Tia.

WEST VIRGINIA WAYSTATION

From Prison Dog Program Manager Dani: There are so many things to love about the wild and wonderful state of West Virginia, and watching our kennel kiddos blossom with the changing of the seasons is at the very top of that list. With the exception of a few of them, most of our kennel dogs have been up here for a year or longer, (they are available for adoption to the right homes), so we've really had a chance to watch them learn and develop.

Rosalita

Each of the kennel dogs have had tremendous progress and growth during their time here in West Virginia, but I would have to say the one that stands out the most (it's hard to choose one!) would be Rosalita. Rosalita came in a headstrong wrecking ball of a dog... let me tell you this little girl was tiny but MIGHTY!!! A little too much for other dogs, she relied on the humans in her life to get her energy out, but unfortunately that came with a number of undesirable behaviors. Think jumping, being mouthy, getting amped up the more you ignored her... that kind of thing. Not only have these behaviors reduced almost to extinction, she has learned how to engage with people appropriately, accept affection and attention, and play in a way that is fun for everyone. Plus, she started to create a love affair with some of the other dogs on barrier, something she was never able to do before. As spring bloomed, so did Rosalita.

Our newest live-in kennel worker Kim is doing an amazing job. Not only are her kennels clean and quiet, she's taken the time to develop a personal relationship with each and every one of the kiddos there. It's wonderful having her on the team, knowing without a doubt that our kennel dogs are being loved and cared for every minute of the night and day. Thank you Kim!!!

Yelena with her new family

Exciting news for the prison program! Yelena was adopted into a wonderful family where she gained both fur and human siblings. She is romping around living her very best puppy dog life. You know who else got adopted? Our program senior dog Chuckie!!! We could not be more excited. He got adopted by a recently retired correctional officer. They are both enjoying retirement, and Chuckie is getting to sniff his way around Pennsylvania on hikes, walks, and strolls around the neighborhood!

Chuckie and his adopter

Crowley will be leaving the prison program and going back to live with Tia with a huge toolbox full of training tools. I'm sure he can't wait to tell her all about the program. If you know Crowley, you know he's a hound, and he's got a bit to say. He's gotten everything he needs from the program, except for a home (hint hint), so he'll get to go live it up in swamps of Louisiana until his time comes.

Two of our German Shepherds, Trojan and Jenna, will be joining the prison program soon. I'll have updates for you on them in the next newsletter, so make sure to check it out!
