Happy Friday, Swampton fam!

We have been still handling this cold snap like champs… Some dogs love it, a lot of the dogs aren’t fans, and for all of us humans… we are dreaming of warmer weather.
On the PLUS side, this week was a BIG week for adoptions. Atkins and Crowley both were confirmed adoptions by employees.

Wednesday was one of those days that makes every hard moment worth it.

Panuk has begun his next journey into finding his forever home. He landed last night in his foster home and we are so excited for him to start this next step towards forever. His foster mom Jennifer is a rockstar and immediately said YES to Panuk coming to stay with her after Gnocchi was picked up for his forever home. 🙂

Wolf- Dog Sanctuary: Athens Texas

The cats apart of our Kajun Kitty Sponsorship Program, are unable to go to one of our transport partners or be adopted out due to being feral, or not candidates for an easy adoption. These guys live in our HUGE beautiful indoor/outdoor catteries (we have three)

CAT UPDATE FROM JENNY:
Our cats have been staying cozy thanks to our amazing cat ladies, who have been spoiling them with fluffy blankets and self-warming beds to get through these extremely cold days.

Meanwhile, our trapping efforts have stayed busy. In addition to slowly but steadily TNRing our largest colony, we continue to receive calls for help from throughout the parish. This week, we assisted a family by trapping five cats on their property. The cats were understandably scared, but the woman we were helping was eager to learn and willing to be patient. With guidance and time, she successfully trapped five cats, four males and one female.

Four of these cats are around 6 months old and siblings. They are very fearful, and they will likely remain in our care for many years, possibly for the rest of their lives. The fifth cat is still scared but allows gentle pets, and we’re hopeful he’ll be able to go on transport later this year. Every situation is different, but each one matters, and we’re grateful to be able to help wherever we can.

This week we had to say goodbye to sweet Torti. One of our Kajun Kitties.

She hadn’t been feeling well, and today it was discovered that she had cancer in her mouth. With heavy hearts, we made the compassionate decision to let her go peacefully.

Last week was also hard for employees Jenna, Rain and Sheila as they said goodbye to our beloved Ruby Tuesday. 💔
There’s a particular kind of heartbreak that comes with knowing the end is coming.

Cancer is cruel, but osteosarcoma is especially unforgiving. Ruby fought it with a strength that humbled us, and we held onto every single day she gave us like a gift we knew we didn’t deserve for long. Each morning she woke up, each meal she enjoyed, each quiet moment where she leaned into love — we made it count, because time had become sacred.

There’s a particular kind of heartbreak that comes with knowing the end is coming.
You grieve while they’re still here. You smile through tears.
You celebrate survival one day at a time, all while your heart is slowly breaking.
Ruby taught us how to live in those moments — to be present, to be grateful, and to love deeper than we ever thought possible.

Ruby Tuesday, you were so deeply loved.
You were brave.
You were gentle.
You were everything.
Thank you for fighting as long as you did, and for trusting us enough to let us help you rest.

Run free now, sweet girl.
No more pain. No more battles.
Just sunshine, soft grass, and all the love you carry with you across the Rainbow Bridge.
We will miss you.
