Our Sponsorship Program offers a meaningful way for our supporters to contribute to the well-being of these “lifers” through monthly donations. While becoming a sponsor, you help us with the essential care, as well as medical costs.

Meet Wild Turkey

This handsome guy has been with us since he was just a young pup, and despite the name, he’s never quite mellowed out.

Turkey has dealt with some serious trauma and has a big ol’ suitcase full of anxiety. Strangers? No thanks. New situations? Hard pass. Because of this, we’ve made the decision that his forever home is right here with us at VRC.

He lives with one of our long-time employees, who continues to work with him every day, helping him feel safe and understood—even if he still gives side-eye to just about everyone else. He may be a bit wild, but he’s our Turkey—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

She may not always be in front of the camera, but she’s still here, working hard behind the scenes and staying fully committed to the mission she started decades ago.

Villalobos is her life’s work, and she’s not going anywhere. Yes she’s all about the dogs, but there is more to her than just the dogs!

Crunchy Peanut Butter Puffs for Dogs

Ingredients

- 2 cups puffed rice cereal (unsweetened)

- ½ cup peanut butter (xylitol-free)

- ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce

- 1 tablespoon honey (optional)

- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Preparing the Ingredients

- Puffed rice cereal: Use plain, unsweetened puffed rice to maintain a light and crispy texture.

- Peanut butter: Choose a natural peanut butter without added sugar or xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.

- Applesauce: Adds natural moisture and helps bind the mixture.

- Honey (optional): Provides mild natural sweetness and antibacterial benefits.

- Cinnamon (optional): Enhances flavor and may support digestion.

Instructions

1. In a mixing bowl, combine peanut butter, applesauce, honey (if using), and cinnamon. Stir until smooth.

2. Gently fold in the puffed rice cereal, coating it evenly with the peanut butter mixture.

3. Spread the coated cereal onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

4. Allow the mixture to set in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours until firm.

5. Break apart into bite-sized pieces and serve.

Storage

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
