THIS WEEK AT VRC

HURRICANE UPDATE

My apologies for not sending last week's newsletter; we were dealing with a million different things in the aftermath of the storm on top of not having internet. Thank you all for your patience and understanding!

Hurricane Francine took an unexpected turn, hitting us as a Category 2 storm when she made landfall. While we have significant damage and a long cleanup ahead, I’m relieved to report that every dog and cat at Villalobos Rescue Center is safe, thanks to our incredible team, who worked tirelessly through the storm. Our staff truly went above and beyond.

A huge thank you to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office and Mariah’s boyfriend for clearing fallen trees and helping us access one of our locations. Without their help, we would have been stranded.

As we continue to assess the damage, it's clear that donations are more urgently needed than we initially anticipated. Between the rescue’s immediate needs and the support we’ll be providing to the surrounding community, every bit of help counts. Thank you to everyone who has already donated—I wish I could personally thank each and every one of you.

THE ADOPTABLES

Geronimo

Geronimo is a 10-year-old male lab who’s been with us for a while, and we’re still not sure why! He’s a sweet, gentle boy who loves giving his paw and, like any lab, adores water. Despite his age, he’ll still dive in after a ball and enjoys swimming and playing with his toys.

Geronimo prefers to be the only pet in the home so he can be your main love. He’s calm and doesn’t need much exercise—just a swim or a walk, and he’s ready to snuggle up on the couch with you!

Spears

Spears is a 2 1/2-year-old shepherd mix with boundless energy. She's dog-friendly and would love a playmate who can keep up with her. Perfect for an active home, Spears enjoys hiking and outdoor adventures. Crate trained and a people-lover, she's ready to bring joy to an active family.

VRC SPONSOR PROGRAM

Coy Coy

COY COY NEEDS A SPONSOR

Coy Coy’s story began on a sad note. She was one of 13 wolf/husky-looking dogs whose owner was arrested. Left abandoned for days, the dogs grew desperate and hungry, eventually escaping their yard in search of food. Despite not threatening anyone or anything, local law enforcement chose to shoot them as their solution. Thankfully, local shelters called us, and after 12 exhausting hours, we managed to rescue them all—except one: Coy Coy.

With no choice but to return later (it was 1 a.m., and we had an RV full of wet, stressed dogs), we begged the neighbors to keep an eye on her and feed her until we could come back. A week later, we kept our promise and finally caught the little "lone wolf."

Even now, Coy Coy remains wary of humans (who could blame her?), but she loves romping around with her two “sisters,” Hayley and Davina. Once a muddy little pup, she’s grown into a beautiful lady, and she will always be safe with us.

HAVE YOU HEARD AT VRC?

WHO THE HECK ARE THE MOTO MAIDENS??

They are a tribe of young women (my daughter Mariah Harmony being one of them) who travel the country and highlight other amazing women doing some pretty great things, all while riding their self-built motorcycles.

On Sept. 21st, the Moto Maidens left Albuquerque, NM, and are embarking out on a 1000-mile, 7-day journey to raise donations for three different animal rescue groups in New Mexico.

We are honored to highlight 4 Corners Wolf Dog Rescue Sanctuary Inc, Pitties and Kitties Rescue of New Mexico, and Española Humane and the Maidens will be visiting with each group.

Please consider purchasing one of these shirts so that we can help these kickass women who run these kickass animal organizations, get some much-needed funding.

TEXAS SANCTUARY

From Texas Manager Amy: We’re have a new resident at our Texas location, Fox! Fox is currently undergoing PHOVIA light treatment therapy to help speed up the healing process for his wounds, and we're thrilled to say he’s doing wonderfully so far. Amazingly, he sleeps right through them—no sedatives needed! He’s just that calm and peaceful, a true gentle giant. Fox will need a total of six treatments, with sessions every 2-3 days, and the doctor is already seeing significant improvement. In fact, the photo of his wound at the end of this clip was taken right after his first treatment, and today, you can no longer see the bone—such an incredible recovery!

Needless to say, Fox has completely stolen my heart, and I’m head over heels in love.

As summer winds down and we prepare to welcome fall, everyone’s favorite wild girl, Freya, got to enjoy a special treat—a dip in the local lake! She had a blast watching the boats go by and was absolutely in love with the soft grass along the shoreline. Freya made the most of these final summer days, soaking in the sun and embracing every moment. Stay tuned for more of her fall adventures!
