🚨 We’re Accepting Volunteers For Dog Walks! 🚨
Want to make a difference in the lives of rescued dogs and be part of the mission behind Villalobos Rescue Center?
We are officially ready for volunteers — and we need passionate, dedicated people like YOU to help us continue the work we do every single day.

Our Assumption Parish location is a beautiful country atmosphere about 1 1/2 hours outside the city of New Orleans. Here on our 13-acre Sanctuary location, we are offering a dog walking volunteer program.  We also have play areas where you can sit with a dog to relax and enjoy some cuddle time.

Here are the most commonly asked questions/answers.

1.  You HAVE to make a reservation ONLY one week prior to your visit.  We cannot accept reservations any further out than that due to the extreme weather changes and the possibility of scheduling conflicts.  AT THIS TIME, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO HAVE VOLUNTEERS ON SATURDAYS.

2.   Louisiana weather (especially during the summer) is extremely hot and humid.  If you have any physical or medical limitations, this may not be the right program for you.  Please make sure you can handle the brutally hot temperatures.

3.   Volunteering starts at 9 am and ends about noon (give or take) due to the impending heat of the afternoons.

4.   There are no indoor volunteer experiences available.

5.   There are no Uber, Taxi or any other public transportation outlets available for the Assumption Parish area.

6.    The closest store/eatery is a few miles away, so you may want to bring your own drinks/snacks/food.

7.    You cannot bring any personal dogs with you.

8.    Please wear proper footwear (no sandals, flip flops, etc)

9.    For those with children, 5 years and under, you will not be able to participate in the dog walking program, as the route is too long, but we do have other options available for you and the little ones.

10.    While we know many people come here excited that we are the home of “Pit Bulls & Parolees,” we hope that you are coming here for the dogs.  The people from the TV show come and go as they are working but there is no guarantee that any will be at the Sanctuary at any given time.

Our Adoptable Dogs

These dogs are currently available for adoption.

If they have been “virtually adopted” that means that their adoption fee has been covered by their virtual adopter for an approved application.

Prime is a 2-year-old male Pit Bull with a heart full of love. He’s incredibly sweet and tender-hearted, adores people, and gets along well with other dogs. However, his high-energy, rough-and-tumble play style can be a bit much for more mellow pups, so he does best with dog friends who match his enthusiasm and with some supervision during playtime.

Sulley’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. As a puppy, he was dumped on a busy road, left to fend for himself. Thankfully, he found his way to us, and not long after, he was adopted into what we all hoped would be his forever home. But sometimes, life changes in ways we can’t predict, and Sulley had to come back to the rescue.

Now about 2.5 years old, this sweet boy hasn’t let his past dim his spirit. He absolutely loves people—especially kids—and is always ready for an adventure. Whether it’s a road trip or just a quick ride around town, Sulley is a perfect passenger.

Thunder is full of life to say it lightly. He loves everything and everyone. He is dog friendly and would do best with older children 10 and up due to his energy level. He has never met a stranger and is ready to take on any adventure you can think of! He likes water and will play with any toy you toss his way.

Walter is a 7.5-year-old Golden Lab mix with a heart as big as his love for water. This confident, sweet boy lights up around people and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Whether he’s diving into the water after his favorite toys or cruising happily in the car, Walter is always up for an adventure. He’s well-behaved in public, playful at heart, and ready to bring endless joy to the right home.

Meet Hemlock

We found him a few miles down the road, moving through the dust and heat like a whisper of something forgotten. A harness, once vibrant, had faded to a pale pink—too loose, too worn, rubbing his skin raw as if it, too, was trying to let go of the past. He was thin, his ribs pressing against the fabric of a life that no longer fit him.

But when the car door opened, he did not hesitate. He hopped inside as if answering a call only he could hear, as if this was where he was meant to be all along.

We searched for his past. A chip revealed a name—Maui. A woman’s voice on the other end of the line, surprised but distant. She had rehomed him just two weeks before. She gave us another number, another name, a thread that led to the man who was supposed to care for him.

But some people do not deserve the loyalty of creatures like Hemlock. When we called, when we spoke the words We have him. He is safe.—the response was silence. And then, a click. A line gone dead. A past that was severed in an instant.

And so, he became ours. No longer Maui, no longer unwanted. He became Hemlock—strong, resilient, reborn.

At our beautiful sanctuary, we care for over 40 wolf-dogs — each with their own story of heartbreak, survival, and strength.

While their pasts may be filled with pain, they all share one powerful future:
a forever sanctuary where they are safe, loved, and free to be who they are.

We sent 31 cats on transport on Tuesday!

11 were dropped off to Ten Lives Club in Blasdell, NY (by Buffalo) on Thursday

On Friday, 8 were dropped off to Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord Merrimack in Concord, NH (our long term transport partner)

12 were dropped off to our newest cat transport partner Conway Area Humane Society in Conway, NH

This was our largest transport to date, and a lot of long term and adult cats went on this trip to finally find their forever homes. This also helps us make room to help more cats as kitten season is here, and calls are already coming in asking for our help with momma cats and kittens.

Mother Goose and her babies are doing great. The babies are between 7 - 8oz, and some are just starting to open their eyes.

🫐Frozen Blueberry Yogurt Bites for Dogs🐾

Ingredients

* 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened, no xylitol)

* 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries (plus a few extra for topping)

* 1 tablespoon unsweetened applesauce

* 2 tablespoons rolled oats

Supplements (optional)

* 1/2 teaspoon ground flaxseed (fiber and omega-3 boost)

Instructions

1. Blend yogurt, blueberries, applesauce, and rolled oats in a food processor until smooth and purple.

2. Scoop the mixture into silicone molds or roll into small balls using a spoon and parchment-lined tray.

3. Gently press a whole blueberry on top of each bite.

4. Freeze for 2–3 hours until solid.

5. Remove from molds or tray and store frozen until ready to serve.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months. Serve frozen.
