Chanel is a 7½-year-old Lab mix with a heart full of love and a gentle spirit. She’s incredibly sweet and well-mannered—crate trained, but trustworthy enough to be left out, as she’s never destructive. What she really wants most? To be close to her people, curled up for a cuddle.

Meet Gnocchi: This gentle soul is 5 ½ years old and as sweet as they come. A hound mix with a heart of gold, Gnocchi is the kind of dog who just needs a little time, a little patience, and a whole lot of love. He’s shy in new situations, which makes it tough to show off just how wonderful he really is. But once he feels safe, Gnocchi blossoms (which he has done in his foster home!).

He adores other dogs and absolutely needs a canine companion to help him feel secure — he’s the kind of guy who thrives with a buddy by his side.

Kim Possible is our tiniest resident at just around 30lbs, but don’t let her size fool you—this girl has main character energy. She’s sassy, spunky, and always down for a car ride (seriously, she’s the ultimate road dog ).

She’s polite out in public with other dogs but doesn’t love them in her space, so we’re looking for a dog- and cat-free home for her. Good with older kids (10+) —she loves fun, but her zoomies might be too much for the littles. Loves car rides, crate trained, and would THRIVE in an active home that gives her room to be her wild, wonderful self.

She’s got sass. She’s got speed. She’s got that “only dog, please and thank you” attitude. And she’s looking for her ride-or-die human.

VRC SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

At Villalobos Rescue Center, we are dedicated to provide lifelong care and love to dogs and cats that face significant medical or behavioral challenges , making them unlikely candidates for adoption. Our Sponsorship Program offers a meaningful way for our supporters to contribute to the well-being of these “lifers” through monthly donations. While becoming a sponsor, you help us with the essential care, as well as medical costs.

VRC dog sponsors get access to a private Facebook group moderated by Tia, Katie & Jenna.

This beautiful Labrador is one of the most heartbreaking emotional abuse cases we've ever encountered. In October 2021, we responded to a call in Northern Mississippi to help a group of abandoned and horribly neglected “hunting dogs.” While most were Bloodhounds and Hound mixes, there was one terrified Lab whose pain stood out the most.

When we carried him out of the shelter, he drooled, peed on himself, and shook uncontrollably during the ride home. His fear was overwhelming — so deep that it affected him physically. To make things worse, he was diagnosed with one of the worst cases of heartworm disease we’ve seen. He has since went through treatment, and while we’re hopeful his body will heal, we know his emotional wounds will take far longer.

But there is hope. 🧡
He’s currently living with one of our long-time employees, someone who understands dogs like him — and for the first time, he’s starting to come out of his shell. Slowly but surely, we’re seeing glimpses of the dog he’s meant to be.

Valkyrie was purchased from a breeder—brought to Texas by someone who soon realized the storm he had welcomed into his home was far greater than he could weather. By the time she was a year old, she had outgrown his world, her instincts clashing with the life she was forced into. Work schedules changed, patience thinned, and soon, Valkyrie found herself bound to a post, a chain tight around her neck, the fur worn away where metal met flesh. She was frightened. Skittish. A shadow of the powerful being she was meant to be.

Her owner realizing he bit off more than he could chew, asked us for help. We welcomed Valkyrie opened arms into our Texas Sanctuary where she will live the rest of her life free from chains.

The Kajun Kitties have been BUSY!

Kitten Season is in full swing, and is not showing any signs of slowing down.

We need help!
The last couple of weeks we have been stabilizing this tiny fighter that found on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. It took our Good Samaritan two days to safely catch her. We have named her Emmeline.

She came in, in rough shape with a 104.9 fever, road rash, bald patches, a swollen chin. And to top it off during her initial exam under a black light our vet THREE found bot flies buried underneath her skin. It didn’t end there…..throughout the week poor Emmeline had SEVEN bot flies removed from her tiny neck/chin area.

She is currently recovering and doing well on antibiotics.

Meet our newest (and tiniest) rescue: Blue Rhino!
One of our team members heard desperate meows coming from behind a Dollar General and crawled under a propane tank case to find this little guy.

After a scary start, Blue Rhino is now safe, warm, and has a full belly. A little food, water, and TLC go a long way—and he's already showing us his sweet, spunky personality.

He's still settling in, but we’re so glad he found his way to us. Welcome to the VRC family, Blue Rhino! 💙
